(un)comfortable is an interactive sound installation.
"what makes you comfortable and uncomfortable?"
"what makes you comfortable and uncomfortable?"
This question was posted to online chat conversations and strangers answered this to each other through the online forum. I then recorded a text transcript of each of these conversations. The text was then re-mediated into audio by the artist and their friend. This 'intercepting' tin cans on a string allow the viewer to eavesdrop on the strangers' internet conversations. This work investigates intimacy both through the art-making process and in the viewers' interaction in thinking about the following questions:
1. Why do we share intimate details with strangers online that we typically wouldn't in person?
2. How does this change when acknowledging the Internet is a public space that does not protect this intimacy?
3. How does the viewers voyeuristic relationship to the piece influence the overall sense of intimacy?
